Walk-in showers are easier to get in and out of, and they make a bathroom feel bigger. A low curb gets you most of the look without as much work on the floor.
Keeping water in
With no door, what keeps the water in is a fixed glass panel and enough distance between the shower head and the opening.
Curb or no curb
A low curb keeps the water in without much extra work. A flat, curbless entry needs the shower floor set lower than the rest of the room, and whether that's practical depends on the framing underneath.
The drain
A center drain means the floor slopes from all four sides, so it's usually done in small tile. A long linear drain lets the floor slope one way, so bigger tile works.
A few decisions to make
